The Department of Health Psychology at the University of Missouri (MU) seeks applicants for a 12-month Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor to join our vibrant department and lead the Health Psychology Inpatient Adult Consult Service at the University of Missouri Hospital. Qualified candidates will have a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or equivalent from an APA-approved program, and will have completed postdoctoral training in health psychology, rehabilitation psychology and/or rehabilitation neuropsychology. Applicants must be licensed, or eligible to be licensed, in the state of Missouri.
As part of the University of Missouri Healthcare System, the MU Department of Health Psychology has a long tradition of excellence in clinical services, research, and training in psychological services based in medical settings, and particularly rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology. We are well established as the sole providers of comprehensive rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology services across the lifespan in the mid-Missouri area, and with recent expansions our clinical activities now include an Acute Care Hospital Consult Service.
The faculty member in this position will provide consultation-liaison services at University of Missouri Hospital, which offers the only Level 1 trauma center and helicopter service in mid-Missouri. The Critical Care tower of University Hospital houses cardiac, medical, neurological and surgical intensive care units, as well as mid-Missouri’s only burn intensive care unit. The faculty member will offer assessment and brief interventions with patients receiving care to address a range of issues including: treatment adherence, psychological factors influence care/presentation, non-pharmacological pain management, and substance abuse issues. Supportive family intervention for medical inpatients is also offered. Along with exceptional clinical skills, candidates who will be most successful in this position will have strong interpersonal skills and experience in working with other health care professionals and teams. This position also involves providing outpatient psychotherapy services to patients following discharge from acute hospitalization, acute rehabilitation, as well as other persons dealing with chronic medical issues. Other responsibilities include the supervision of pre-doctoral psychology interns in our APA-approved internship training program (a collaboration with the Truman Veterans Affairs Hospital: http://www.psychologytraining.va.gov/columbiamo/) and of post-doctoral fellows, and participation in research activities.
